About Tim Mbogo, founder of CFO Embedded

I have been the person on the other side of this.

I started CFO Embedded because business owners deserve to understand the numbers behind the work they’re already doing.

CFO Embedded is my Dallas bookkeeping and profit coaching practice for owners of small businesses doing $250K to $3M a year.

Meet Tim: a finance partner who speaks regular English

I spent over a decade working behind the scenes of high-stakes corporate environments, fast-growing venture capital funds and multi-entity enterprises.

But I didn’t start CFO Embedded to build more corporate spreadsheets. I started it because I saw a major gap in the market: small business owners are excellent at their craft, but they are often forced to make big business decisions on pure gut feel.

My mission is to take enterprise-level financial discipline and make it accessible, actionable and profitable for local small business owners.

12+ years of putting numbers to work

$3B+

in assets under management. I directed fund accounting, financial reporting and compliance for venture capital and private equity funds, so I know how serious investors read margins, risk and cash flow.

150+

audits and entities. I managed financial governance, tax preparation and annual audits across large entity networks, so your books are built to hold up when it’s time to talk to your CPA or the tax authorities.

15→5

days to close the month. I rebuilt broken financial systems for multi-market companies and cut the monthly close from 15 days to 5. You get the same focus on speed in your monthly reporting.

1st

budgets and forecasts. From onboarding first-time general partners to running accounting for fast-growing businesses, I have helped leaders build their very first budgets and long-term forecasts.

The record

Twelve years, five roles, one thread: getting the numbers right and getting them to the people who need them.

2022 – now

Assistant Controller · Venture capital & private equity

Fund accounting and financial reporting for venture capital and private equity funds: capital calls, distributions, investor reporting, audit coordination and compliance.

2020 – 2021

Accounting Manager · Venture capital

Full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of venture funds. Managed a team of four. Cash forecasting, budgeting and quarterly financial statements.

2018 – 2020

Accounting Manager · Real estate investor

All accounting, tax and finance across six markets. Rebuilt a fifteen-day monthly close into a five-day close. Ran monthly profit and loss reviews with each market leader and advised them on profitability. Lifted revenue actualization by 15%.

2016 – 2018

Tax Accountant · Insurance

Business tax return preparation and review, federal and state withholding, sales and use tax returns, 1099 and W-8 reporting, account reconciliation and month-end close.

2014 – 2016

Staff Accountant · Retail franchiser

Partnership accounting for a retail franchiser with over 150 stores.

Job titles are the titles I held at those employers. I am not a Certified Public Accountant.

Why this matters for your business

When you look at a ledger, you see a history report. When I look at it, I see a roadmap.

Because I’ve sat on the corporate side of the table managing multi-million dollar portfolios, I know real financial health isn’t just about filing taxes. It’s about finding where every single dollar leaks.

When you work with CFO Embedded, you don’t get a ticket queue or a revolving door of junior data-entry staff. You get an MBA-educated financial strategist who looks directly at your operational bottlenecks, whether you run a clinic, an agency, a construction crew or a shop, and tells you exactly what to do next.

No jargon

We talk about cash cushions, safe owner paychecks and real profit margins.

No long contracts

Our work stands on its own value, month after month.

Total transparency

Your numbers are delivered predictably, on time, every single month.

Four promises I make every client

No judgment

However far behind the books are, we start from where you are.

Plain English

If a report needs a glossary, I haven’t done my job.

Honest referrals

If I can’t solve it, I’ll tell you who can.

No long contract

Your books are yours. They leave with you whenever you choose.

What I am not

I am not a Certified Public Accountant and CFO Embedded is not a CPA firm. I do not perform audits, reviews, compilations or other attest services, and I cannot sign anything that requires a license. Content on this site is general education, not individual tax or legal advice.

If your bank, your investor or your buyer needs an audited statement, you need a licensed firm. Tell me, and I will help you find one and hand them books they will not complain about.

For everything else, which is most of what a business your size actually needs, the license is not the thing that matters. Somebody who will answer the phone in June is.

Twenty minutes, and you can ask me anything on this page.

Including the parts above. If you want to know exactly what I have and have not done before, ask on the call. I would rather answer it early.

If the numbers have been bothering you, write to me. I read every one of these myself.
